mke_forgeMILWAUKEE - A federal employment watchdog has filed a lawsuit accusing a Milwaukee forging company of mistreating black employees.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Milwaukee Forge subjected black workers to a hostile work environment.

The EEOC also accuses the company of disciplining black workers more harshly than white workers and retaliating against black employees who complained.

Company spokesman Todd Dunnum says the company will respond “at the appropriate time.” EEOC director John Rowe cites an incident where a white employee who used a racial epithet and fought with black employees earned a one-day suspension. Rowe says black employees who complained about harassment got longer suspensions than that, or were fired.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday.
